The Vote Conservative Tee is based on a British Conservative election poster from the 1929 United Kingdom general election. The original poster read: “Safeguarding shields your wages & your job! Workers! Vote Conservative!” It showed a worker holding a hammer and a shield labeled “Safeguarding,” blocking threats like lower wages, sweated labor, and foreign competition.
Temple Conservative Union reworked the original design into a modern student conservative message. We kept the 1920s-style artwork, the worker, the shield, and the focus on protecting wages and jobs, but adapted it for today’s concerns about foreign competition, weakened labor standards, the misuse of programs like H-1B visas that replace and undercut American workers and graduates, and economic policies that put American workers last.
This shirt represents TCU’s belief that conservatism should defend working people, protect national independence, and keep economic opportunity in the hands of American citizens.
